The story worth telling

A before-and-after is easier to understand when the viewer knows the brief. Ask the stylist to name the desired change in one sentence, then show one step that explains how the result was achieved.

Three things to capture

  1. The starting style with permission
  2. A relevant technique or detail
  3. The result in matching light

Record enough before and after each action to leave room for the edit. Keep a copy of the original files so you can return to a moment if the first sequence misses it.

Give the edit a shape

01

State the client’s agreed goal

02

Show the care in the process

03

Finish on an honest view of the result

Before you share it

Obtain client permission and avoid beauty filters that change the apparent result.
